Purkinje cells or Purkinje neurons are neurons found in the layered structures of the mammalian cerebellum (not to be confused with Cardiac Purkinje cells).
Purkinje cells are long-axon cells that function as the sole output cells of the cerebellar cortex. The cells are generated in the ventricular zone, migrate outward, and finally form a monolayer in the cortex. They represent less than 0.1 % of the total cell content of the cerebellum and are located between the granule layer that contains very small granular neurons (granule cells), and the molecular layer, which contains scanty neurons consisting of stellate cells and
