Pentastatins are bioactive fragments (see also: cryptides) derived from the COL4A5 gene (collagen-4-alpha-5 chain). They have been shown to inhibit the proliferation and migration of human umbilical vein endothelial cells in vitro and are therefore thought to possess anti-angiogenic properties in vivo (Karagiannis and Popel, 2008).
