Pentamidine

An aromatic diamidine [1,5-bis(4-amidinophenoxy)pentane] (Rosenthal et al, 1991; Geratz et al, 1975). For a review of pentamidine analogues see: Porcheddu et al, 2012). The compound and derivatives are used to treat Pneumocystis carinii infections (Maciejewska et al, 2012; Demasi et al, 2013) and Human African trypanosomiasis (sleeping sickness) and other neglected diseases such as malaria and leishmaniasis (Nok, 2003; Bray et al, 2003).
