PP12
[placental protein 12] This protein, expressed specifically in the placenta, has been identified by Bohn and Kraus (1980) in from soluble extracts of term human placenta and adjacent membranes.
PP12 is identical with IGFBP1, a protein that binds IGF (see: IGFBP) (Julkunen et al, 1988). Since the decidua and also the placenta express IGF receptors PP12 probably functions as a local modulator of IGF bioactivity and bioavailability. Alterations in the IGFBP serum levels have been shown to correlate with endometrial dysfunctions.
