[Parkinson disease-8; Autosomal Dominant Parkinson Disease-8] The PARK8 gene has been identified by Funayama et al (2002) through genome-wide linkage analysis of a Japanese family with autosomal dominant parkinsonism, which exhibits clinical features compatible with those of common Parkinson's disease. The disease-associated haplotype has been mapped to chromosome 12p11.23-q13.11. The approved gene symbol for this gene is LRRK2 [leucine-rich repeat kinase 2]. Funayama et al (2005) have detected a missense mutation in this gene.
