[Protein associated with UVRAG as autophagy enhancer]; the approved gene symbol for this protein is RUBCNL [Rubicon-like]. PACER has been identified by Cheng et al (2017) who reported that it plays a role in autophagy processes by promoting autophagosome maturation into autolysosomes, functioning as an antagonist of Rubicon, a protein that negatively regulates autophagy. PACER is crucial for the degradation of hepatic lipid droplets, plays a role in the clearance of protein aggregates and has been shown to be involved in the suppression of Salmonella infection.
