Abbr. OCX-32. ovocalyxin-32 is a chicken eggshell matrix protein. Ovocalyxin-32 is present at high levels in the uterine fluid during the terminal phase of eggshell formation. The protein possesses limited identity (32 %) to two unrelated proteins: latexin, a carboxypeptidase inhibitor expressed in rat cerebral cortex and mast cells, and TIG1, a skin protein that is encoded by a retinoic acid receptor-responsive gene (Hincke et al, 2003.
Xing et al (2007) have reported that the protein can inhibit bovine carboxypeptidase. The protein also inhibits the growth of Bacillus subtilis and as an antimicrobial peptide may provide protection to the developing avian embryo.
