[ovalbumin-related protein X] This chicken protein is a member of the ovalbumin gene family (Heilig et al, 1980) and shares highly significant similarity in coding sequences with the ovalbumin gene. Orthologs for members of this protein family in humans don't exist (Tian et al, 2010). The expression of ovalbumin gene family members in hen oviduct is under estrogen control (Colbert et al, 1980). The exact function of the protein is not known. The protein is a member of the ovalbumin serine protease inhibitor family (ov-serpin) but lacks enzymatic activity.
