[organic-cation transporter-like 3] abbr. also OCTL3. This gene has been cloned by Nishiwaki et al (1998). The approved gene symbol is SLC22A13 [solute carrier family 22 (organic anion transporter) member 13]. The encoded protein (551 amino acids) shows significant similarity with organic-cation transporters and contains sequence motifs characteristic of membrane transporter proteins. ORCTL3 is expressed widely.
Irshad et al (2009) have shown downregulation of ORCTL3 expression in human kidney tumors and have implicated ORCTL3 in cell death by apoptosis. ORCTL3 is inactive in normal rat kidney NRK cells, but induces apoptosis in NRK
