OPA1

(approved gene symbol) [optic atrophy-1; optic atrophy protein 1] The cDNA encoding OPA1 has been cloned independently as KIAA0567. The protein is being referred to also as Mitochondrial Dynamin-like 120 kDa protein.

The human gene has been cloned by Delettre et al (2000) who showed that the OPA1 protein localizes to mitochondria and is distantly related to dynamin-related protein is the fission yeast S. pombe and Saccharomyces cerevisiae.
