[osteoclast inhibitory peptide-1] The cDNA for the gene encoding this protein of 131 amino acids was isolated from a human osteoclast-like multinucleated cell (MNC) cDNA library. OIP-1 is a glycosyl phosphatidyl inositol (GPI)-anchored protein that can be released into the medium as a membrane-bound (vesicle form) GPI-linked protein, which suggests an activity as an autocrine and paracrine regulator.
