This protein has been identified as a centrosomal microtubule-anchoring protein that is essential for the reformation of the interphase centrosome architecture following mitosis (Ou et al, 2002). Delgehyr et al (2005) have proposed that ninein constitutes a molecular link between microtubule-nucleation and -anchoring activities at the centrosome. Stillwell et al (2004) have reported that ninein plays a regulatory role in microtubule nucleation.
Several studies have shown that ninein is a centrosomal autoantigen (Stillwell et al, 2004; Mack et al, 1998).
