[Natalisins]
abbr. NTL. Natalisin is a neuropeptide identified in three holometabolous insect species: Drosophila melanogaster, Tribolium castaneum, and Bombyx mori (Jiang et al, 2013). The peptide is related to arthropod tachykinins (see also: Drosophila melanogaster tachykinins). The authors have suggested that Natalisin is an ancestral sibling of tachykinin that evolved only in the arthropod lineage.
The Natalisin precursors in different arthropod species contain multiple repeats of 6- to 25 amino acids (paracopies) that are similar to each other, particularly at the C-termini. The putative mature peptides
