[neurotrophin-6, neurotrophic factor-6] NT-6 is a neurotrophin found in fish (Götz et al, 1994). It is expressed in the embryonic valvulla cerebelli and its expression persists in some adult tissues. The spectrum of actions is similar to NGF on chick sympathetic and sensory neurons but NT-6 is less potent. NT-6 is not secreted and thus differs from other known neurotrophins. Heparin (but not chondroitin) causes the release of NT-6 from the cell surface and extracellular matrix, and this may help to establish a gradient (Li et al, 1997).
