This Drosophila melanogaster neuropeptide is encoded by gene CG10342. NPF is an amidated peptide of 36 residues with the sequence GSLMDILRNHEMDNINLGKNANNGGEFARGFNEEEIF. It is related to vertebrate neuropeptide Y family members, isolated originally by Brown et al (1999) as a brain-gut peptide. Drosophila NPF is expressed in the brain and midgut of fly larvae and adults.
NPF has been isolated also from Aedes aegypti mosquitoes based on its immunoreactivity in a radioimmunoassay for Drosophila
