NKSF

[natural killer cell stimulatory factor] This factor was isolated initially from a lymphoblastoid B-cell line and found to stimulate the activity of natural killer cells. The factor was renamed IL12.

In studying the critical region of gene loss in the 5q minus syndrome, Boultwood et al (1994) have used the term NKSF1 (IL12A gene on chromosome 3) and NKSF2 (40 kDa subunit; IL12B; on chromosome 5) for the two genes encoding the subunits of IL12.
