NILE

[nerve growth factor-inducible large external; NGF-inducible large external] This cell surface glycoprotein of 230 kDa has been identified by McGuire et al (1978) in PC12 pheochromocytoma cells undergoing neuronal differentiation in response to NGF. NILE is expressed on the cell surfaces of most if not all peripheral and central neurons examined. Low expression is seen in Schann cells (Salton et al, 1983).

NILE is identical with the cell surface antigen L1 (Bock et al, 1985). Friedlander et al (1986) have reported identity between NILE and NgCAM [neuron-glia cell adhesion molecule]. In the nomenclature of ... ... ... ...
