[Neuroendocrine regulatory peptide-2] This protein (38 amino acids in humans (QAEATRQAAAQEERLADLASDLLLQYLLQGGARQRGLG) and rats) is derived from neurosecretory protein VGF identified originally as a product of a gene the expression of which is upregulated in response to NGF in rat PC12 cells (Levi et al, 1985). Human NERP-2 corresponds to VGF(310-347) (Yamaguchi et al, 2007). Yamaguchi et al (2007) have identified amidated NERP-1 as a peptide secreted from human medullary thyroid carcinoma TT-cells.
