[Neuroendocrine regulatory peptide-1] This protein (26 amino acids in humans (RPESALLGGSEAGERLLQQGLAQVEA), 25 amino acids in rats) is derived from neurosecretory protein VGF identified originally as a product of a gene the expression of which is upregulated in response to NGF in rat pheochromocytoma PC12 cells (Levi et al, 1985). Human NERP-1 corresponds to VGF(281-306) (Yamaguchi et al, 2007). Yamaguchi et al (2007) have identified amidated NERP-1 as a peptide secreted from human medullary thyroid carcinoma TT-cells.
