[N cell]
N cells are characterized by the production of neurotensin and are called also neurotensin cells (Frigerio et al, 1977; Sundler et al, 1977, 1977; Gullo et al, 1992; Evers et al, 1995; Reinecke, 1985).
These endocrine-like cells are found in the intestinal mucosa of a variety of species (Buffa et al, 1978; Helmstaedter et al, 1977; Frigerio et al, 1977). N cells are found scattered in the jejuno-ileum of all mammals. They are rather scarce in rat, guinea pig, rabbit and pig and fairly numerous in cat, dog and man.
