abbr. Myg. Myoglianin is encoded by the Drosophila melanogaster gene CG1838 (gene symbol: myo) and belongs to the TGF-beta superfamily of proteins. Myoglianin is an extracellular or secreted protein encodes a protein expressed primarily in muscle and glia cells (Lo and Frasch, 1999; Awasaki et al, 2011). The protein is thought to be the fly homolog of the secreted vertebrate proteins Myostatin (GDF8) and GDF11.
