Micasin
Micasin (GFGCPFNENECHAHCLSIGRKFGFCAGPLRATCTCGKQ) is an antimicrobial peptide related to defensins (see also: defensin-like peptides). It has been isolated from the dermatophytic fungus Microsporum canis together with a second defensin-like peptide, Micasin-2, by Zhu et al (2012) who also cloned the corresponding genes.
Micasin shares 49 % to 62 % sequence identity with defensins from oysters (see: Cg-Def [Crassostrea gigas Defensin], MGD-1 [Mytilus galloprovincialis defensin-1]), ticks, scorpions, and dragonflies.
Micasin is active on both Gram-positive bacteria and Gram-negative bacteria
