[mammary serpin; Mammary serine protease inhibitor] The gene encoding Maspin has been identified in a search of genes that show no or downregulated expression in human breast carcinoma cells (Zou et al, 2000). This protein of 42 kDa is known also as SERPINB5 [serpin peptidase inhibitor clade B member 5] or protease inhibitor-5 or proteinase inhibitor-5 (abbr. PI5).
