[Mammary-derived growth inhibitor-related gene] MRG was identified as a human tumor growth inhibitor by differential cDNA sequencing and is expressed in normal and benign human breast tissues but not in breast carcinomas. The protein shows significant sequence homology to mouse MDGI [mammary-derived growth inhibitor].
Overexpression of MRG in human breast cancer cells (MDA-MB-231 cell line) significantly suppresses cell proliferation in vitro and tumor growth in an orthotopic nude mouse model.
