[monocyte-derived fibroblast growth factor] This protein is produced by monocytes (Stevenson et al, 1985). The factor has growth stimulatory activities for diploid FS-4 human fibroblasts. Austgulen and Nissen-Meyer (1988) have reported that most of the activity copurifies with TNF-alpha and that antibodies against TNF block the fibroblast growth stimulatory activity.
