[mammary transforming gene 1] This murine gene has been identified by Bera et al (1994). Expression of MAT1 causes transformation of murine NIH 3T3 cells and the mammary epithelial cell line TM3. The human homolog is expressed in normal mammary epithelial cells and tumor cells lines. Expression appears to be higher in breast cancer cell lines than in normal mammary epithelial cells (Hwang et al, 1997).
