This cell-penetrating peptide, MVTVLFRRLRIRRACGPPRVRV, has been described by El-Andaloussi et al (2007). M918 is derived from the tumor suppressor protein p14ARF, amino acids 1-22 with positions 3-8 inverted. M918 is non-toxic, does not induce any membrane leakage, and has no antiproliferative effect, and efficiently translocates into various cell types (MCF-7 breast cancer cells, HeLa cells, astrocytoma cells (Hifko), Chinese hamster ovary cells).
