M-spondin
approved gene symbol SPON2 [spondin-2] The protein has been identified independently as DIL-1 [differentially expressed in lung cells-1; differentially expressed in cancerous and noncancerous lung cells 1] and Mindin.
Feinstein et al (1999) have cloned the rat homolog and demonstrated abundant expression in the developing hippocampus. M-spondin promotes adhesion and outgrowth of hippocampal embryonic neurons.
Bilban et al (2009) have reported that M-spondin is one of several genes involved in trophoblast cell invasion.
