[Lonomia obliqua prothrombin activator protease] This protein of 69 kDa has been isolated from the bristles of the Lonomia obliqua caterpillars (Reis et al, 2001). The accidental contact with Lonomia obliqua caterpillar causes local and systemic symptoms (such as fibrinogen depletion), leading, in some cases, to serious clinical complications (acute renal failure and intracranial haemorrhage). Injection of rats with Lopap causes thrombus formation, unclottable blood, and fibrinogen depletion.
