Liver growth factor
abbr. LGF (a term with multiple meanings). LGF has been identified as an albumin-bilirubin complex (Diaz-Gil et al, 1987, 1989). A similar factor has been identified in the serum of human patients with hepatitis.
This factor isolated from plasma of partially hepatectomized rats induces DNA synthesis in hepatocytes in vivo and in vitro. Hepatocytes are stimulated to express TNF-alpha, ICAM-1, and VCAM-1 (Diaz-Gil et al, 2003).
Human endothelial cells (HUVEC) are stimulated by LGF to produce TNF-alpha but LGF
