This peptide has been obtained from an enzymatic hydrolysate of the seahorse Hippocampus kuda Bleeler (Ryu et al, 2010). The isolated peptide induces differentiation of osteoblastic MG-63 and chondrocytic SW-1353 cells. The peptide also inhibits the metalloproteinases MMP-1, MMP-3 and MMP-13, iNOS and COX-2 expression. This involves significant reduction of p38 kinase / NF-kappa-B in MG-63 cells and of MAPKs / NF-kappa-B in SW-1353 cells.
