A B-cell line derived from an immune-suppressed patient with EBV induced B-lymphoproliferative disorder (Durandy et al, 1994). The cells secrete large amounts of IL6 into the conditioned medium and also expresses IL6 receptors. In vitro growth of these cells is inhibited weakly by monoclonal antibodies directed against IL6. The growth of B-cell tumors obtained after inoculation of the cells into SCID mice is blocked by the antibody. In these mice intravenous administration of the antibody causes remission and long-term survival.
