marketed under the names Marograstim and Nartograstim. A recombinant, N-terminally modified form of human G-CSF in which Thr1, Leu3, Gly4, Pro5, and Cys17 are substituted with Ala, Thr, Tyr, Arg, and Ser, respectively. The protein is produced in Escherichia coli.
KW-2228 is more stable than the genuine recombinant factor (see also: Recombinant cytokines, Muteins). It displays a high specific activity, has an increased plasma half-life and improved pharmacokinetic behavior. The factor supports granulopoiesis in the mouse much better than the parent factor.
