[Kallikrein 13] The gene encoding KLK13, a member of the family of kallikreins, has been cloned by Yousef et al (2000). who referred to it as KLKL4 (Kallikrein-like 4).
KLK13 protein is expressed primarily in mammary gland, prostate, salivary gland, and testis but also in other tissues. KLK13 has been found at high concentrations in secreted biological fluids such as seminal plasma, amniotic fluid, milk of lactating women, follicular fluid, and cerebrospinal fluid (Petraki et al, 2003).
KLK13 expression is regulated by steroid hormones
