IsCT (named because the scorpion was found in Isalo, Madagascar and the peptide demonstrates cytotoxic activity) is a linear C-terminally amidated peptide of 13 amino acids (ILGKIWEGIKSLFamide) isolated from scorpion Opisthacanthus madagascariensis venom. IsCT possesses antimicrobial activity against Gram-positive bacteria and Gram-negative bacteria and hemolytic activity for sheep red blood cells. The peptide also releases histamine from rat peritoneal mast cells (Dai et al, 2001).
