[intestinal trefoil factor] This factor belongs to a family of protease-resistant mucin-associated gastrointestinal peptides (also being referred to as P-domain factors or trefoil factors). These proteins possess a characteristic 3-leaved structure caused by the presence of a sequence motif (designated P-domain or trefoil motif) of 40 amino acids that contains 3 conserved disulfide bonds (Thim, 1989).
