[IL1 receptor-associated kinase-2] The gene encoding IRAK2 (590 amino acids) has been isolated by Muzio et al (1997), following a search for sequences in EST databases that are similar to IRAK1. The gene is expressed in a variety of adult human tissues. IRAK2 is involved in signaling through the IL1 receptor and is required for the activation of transcription factor NF-kappa-B induced by engagement of the IL1 receptor. The protein coprecipitates with TRAF6 and MyD88 and forms complexes with IRAK1.
Guo et al (1999) have shown that antisense IRAK2 RNA inhibits IL1 induced NF-kappa-B
