[imprinted in placenta and liver] The maternal allele of this human gene is expressed in a tissue-specific manner (placenta, yolk sac, and fetal liver) in many human and mouse tissues whereas the paternal allele is relatively inactive (Lee and Feinberg, 1998; Quian et al, 1997). IPL encodes a small cytoplasmic protein with a pleckstrin homology domain (Frank et al, 1999). IPL is identical with TSSC3 [tumor-suppressing subchromosomal transferable fragment cDNA 3] described by Qian et al (1997), which is a gene homologous to mouse TDAG51 that has been implicated in cell death by apoptosis mediated by FAS
