(Alphaomega-interferon); abbr. IFN-AW. This interferon is a unique isoform identified originally during an evolutionary analysis of interferon species (Krause and Pestka, 2005). IFN-alphaomega is a type 1 interferon that is separate from IFN-alpha and IFN-omega to which it has highest sequence similarity (∼65 % nucleic acid and 50 % amino acid similarity). It has been identified in a few species such as pigs and cattle (Cochet et al, 2009).
Sang Y et al (2010) have reported that IFN-alphaomega is active against PRRSV (porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus). It protects porcine cells
