originally called hipertensina, Hypertensin is the anglicised original name given by Braun-Menéndez E et al (1940) to a factor in kidney extracts that is involved in blood pressure regulation. This substance is now generally known as angiotensin (for historical overview see also: (Smulyan and Villarreal, 2019).
The designation Hipertensin actually refers to two related peptides, hypertensin I and hypertensin II. Sequence analysis shows that hypertensin I is angiotensin-1; hypertensin II is angiotensin-2 (Skeggs et al, 1956, 1957).
