This mouse gene corresponds to SHH [sonic hedgehog homolog] (see also: Chang et al, 1994 for sequence comparisons). Chang et al (1994) have reported that Hhg-1 can function in Drosophila melanogaster embryos and shows patterning activity in the developing chick limb.
