[histidine-rich glycoprotein] abbr. also HRG. This protein has been identified originally as CM-protein I as an abundant human serum protein with high affinity to carboxymethylcellulose (Heimburger et al, 1972). HRGP has been detected also in human colostrum and milk (Hutchens et al, 1992).
The human cDNA encoding this protein (507 amino acids; 75 kDa) has been cloned by Koide et al (1986). The gene structure has been described by Wakabayashi et al (1999) who also pointed out sequencing errors in the reported cDNA sequence. Based on structural criteria and gene organization, The protein is very rich in histidine and proline and is, therefore, being referred to also as HPRG
