HNL

[human neutrophil lipocalin] This protein has been renamed Lipocalin-2.

HNL is a protein of 45 kDa-that has been purified from the secondary granules of human neutrophils (Xu et al, 1994). The protein consists of two apparently identical subunits. It is released rapidly upon stimulation.

The protein shows a high degree of sequence similarity with rat alpha-2-microglobulin-related protein, which belongs to the lipocalin family. Sequence analysis shows that the protein is identical with an N-formyl peptide binding 24 kDa protein and gelatinase associated protein of human neutrophils, which has been renamed Lipocalin-2.
