[High mobility group AT hook 2; High mobility group A2; High mobility group protein A2]. HMGA2 is a non-histone chromosomal protein that contains three DNA binding domains consisting of the sequence motif K/RXRGRP (X = gly or pro), termed AT hook domains, because they specifically recognize AT-rich DNA sequences (Reeves and Nissen, 1990). Like related members of a family of similar HMG proteins, HMGA2 protein functions as a so-called architectural protein (Tjian and Maniatis, 1994) so named because it can cause DNA bending by binding in the narrow minor groove of the DNA
