HCD57
An erythroleukemia cell line derived from a mouse infected at birth with Friend murine leukemia virus (see also: SFFV). The cells proliferate in response to Epo and require it for survival (see also: Factor-dependent cell lines). The cells can be used, therefore, to assay this factor (see also: bioassays, cytokine assays).
The introduction of SFFV into these Epo dependent cells efficiently and reproducibly gives rise to lines that express high levels of SFFV and are factor-independent. SFFV appears to be unique in its ability to abrogate the factor dependence of these
