This factor is identical with MIP-1-beta, one of the molecular forms of MIP (macrophage inflammatory protein). It therefore belongs to the family of chemotactic cytokines known as Chemokines (subgroup of CC-Chemokines) (Brown et al, 1989).
The factor is known also as SCYA4 and the approved gene symbol is CCL4.
