[gonadotropin releasing hormone 3] GNRH3 is one of the multiple forms of GNRH [gonadotropin releasing hormone] found in different vertebrates (see also: GNRH1, GNRH2). The human genome lacks GNRH3, but it is found in various fish species (Kuo et al, 2005). Zebrafish GNRH3 is QHWSYGWLPG (Gln-His-Trp-Ser-Tyr-Gly-Trp-Leu-Pro-Gly).
Kuo et al (2014) have reported that during embryogenesis zebrafish GNRH3 is required for the development of neurons expressing GNRH3. This process requires the participation of a signalling pathway involving Hedgehog and protein kinase A.
