[glioma-derived angiogenesis inhibitory factor] This factor is found in the conditioned medium of a glioblastoma cell line upon introduction of wild-type, but not mutant, p53 (Van Meir et al, 1994). GD-AIF is able to neutralize the angiogenic activity of factors produced by the parental cells as well as of bFGF.
Sequence analysis shows that GD-AIF is identical with BAI-1 [brain-specific angiogenesis inhibitor-1].
