Ficolin

A binding protein of 40 kDa for TGF-beta-1 isolated originally from porcine uterus membranes. Two closely related cDNA clones encode proteins composed mainly of fibrinogen-like and collagen-like domains (Ichijo et al, 1993; Lu et al, 1996). The corresponding proteins are called Ficolin-alpha and Ficolin-beta. Ficolins have a similar overall structure to complement component C1q and the collectins. Both ficolin proteins form dimers, trimers, and several higher order of oligomers. Ohashi and Erickson (1997) have referred to a an oligomer consisting of 24 subunits as Big Ficolin. Little Ficolin ... ... ... ...
