FIGF

[fos induced growth factor] FIGF was identified by mRNA differential screening of fibroblasts differing for the expression of fos. FIGF is a member of the PDGF VEGF family of proteins. It is a secreted dimeric protein (Orlandini et al, 1996). The protein is identical with VEGF-D [vascular endothelial growth factor D] (Eocchigiani et al, 1998). FIGF expression is strongly reduced in cells that are deficient in expression of fos. FIGF stimulates mitogenic activity in fibroblasts.

Overexpression of FIGF alters the morphology of fibroblasts. The cells become spindle-shaped, more disorganized, and detach from the plate.
